Loving Poodles
If you're looking for a family-friendly pet, then Poodles are a great choice. These affable and energetic canines are extremely intelligent. This makes them exceptionally easy to train. Whether you're considering a standard Poodle, miniature Poodle or one of the adorable teacup Poodles, you'll get a loving pet and loyal companion. In this article, we'll discuss how the breed is cared for, to ensure that your pet enjoys a long life.
You can have a white, red, apricot, silver, brown or black Poodle, and they can appear in part-color or multi-colors. They have dense, curly, non-shedding fur that requires regular grooming. Most owners choose simple cuts and they are perhaps the most easily recognizable dogs in the world thanks to their distinct clips. In the puppy clip, the face, throat, base of the tail and feet are shaved. The coat may be shaped with scissors for neatness. Although this clip appears simpler than the other clips, the length of the hair makes it as difficult to maintain as the adult clips. In the continental clip, the face, throat, feet and part of the tail are shaved. The upper half of the front legs is shaved, leaving "pompoms" around the ankles. The hindquarters are shaved except for pompoms on the lower leg. The continental clip is the most popular show clip today. The English saddle clip is similar to the continental. The hindquarters are not shaved except a small curved area on each flank, the feet, and bands just below the stifle and above the hock, leaving three pompoms.
Poodles are a bundle of energy, so make sure that you have the time available to take him or her for regular walks. Without enough physical activity and mental stimulation, this dog group can sometimes get into mischief! To avoid any puppy mishaps, it's best to keep your dog occupied with toys and lots of attention. If you don't have much time and energy, then a Poodle is not your best choice for a pet.
With proper care and nutrition, many Poodle puppies live well into their teens. The most common serious health issues of the standard breed are Addison's disease, gastric dilatation volvulus, thyroid issues, epilepsy, juvenile renal disease, hip dysplasia and cancer. The most common issue is ear infections. Ear infections are a problem in all Poodle varieties but can be minimized by proper ear care. A veterinarian should be consulted as soon as possible if the dog shows signs of an infection.
If you're looking for a pet that will love to play and go for walks, then breeders definitely give Poodles two paws up! No matter which kind of Poodle you choose, you'll get a beautiful and intelligent pet to enrich your life.
Salut To The French (Standard) Poodle
The French Poodle is one of the most recognizable dogs in the world. Their unique clips and friendly nature makes them a favorite among dog owners. If you're considering purchasing or adopting one, then you should familiarize yourself with the needs of the breed. In this article, we'll discuss the variety of Poodles available and how you can help them live a long and healthy life.
Historically, the French Poodle was bred to be a hunting dog. Although the breed is most commonly believed to have originated in France, some breeders believe that they may have come from Germany. The German word "pudel" means to splash in the water and describes the dogs' affinity for water activity. The Poodle is still known as the national dog in France which is why it is commonly referred to as the French Poodle. The standard Poodle is the largest and oldest type. The medium-sized miniature Poodle and the tiny toy Poodle were later developed. Poodles generally have a square body and should carry themselves in a proud manner. They have a coarse coat but are non-shedding dogs. They're distinct clips come in a number of varieties including the puppy clip, the continental clip and the English Saddle clip. The French variety come in a range of solid colors such as cream, white, black, red, brown, apricot, gray, silver and blue.
The French Poodle is generally intelligent, alert and active. They are very people-friendly dogs and their intelligence makes them easy to train. This is a tremendous bonus to novice dog owners. They tend to be docile and are gentle with children and other pets. However, they also tend to get so attached to their owners that they become unhappy when the family is away from the home. They love attention, so be prepared to devote a lot of time if you decide on a Poodle dog.
The French Poodle is a very active dog that requires regular exercise that includes playing, running and training. They thrive best in an environment that includes a yard or garden in which to play and exercise. This breed can be kept in an apartment providing the animal is regularly exercised and encouraged to be active. The diet should be carefully monitored to avoid bloating. The breed is lively and energetic, and will therefore need a balanced, nutritious diet. A grown Poodle should be fed carefully monitored portions twice daily, and should have access to fresh water at all times. This particular breed suffers from different kinds of health problems, some of which are genetic. Common ailments include cataracts, retinal atrophy, glaucoma and skin and ear infections. Like German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, they also suffer from hip dysplasia. The Poodle is a long-lived breed with an average life expectancy of twelve to fifteen years.
The French poodle has always been popular because of their intelligence and loving nature. However, remember that this breed does require more care than other dogs. If you're considering purchasing or adopting one, then be sure that you have the time needed to properly care for the animal. Nevertheless, the love you lavish on a Poodle will be amply returned.
The Miniature Poodle Is Big Fun
The Poodle is one of the most recognizable dogs in the world and their friendly nature makes them popular with pet owners. The miniature Poodle is the midsize variety of the breed. Like the others, mini Poodles are extremely intelligent and loving, but a dog that has not been properly socialized could develop health and behavioral problems. In this article, we'll discuss how to properly care for a miniature variation, to help him or her live a long and healthy life.
One of the hottest selling points of the miniature is its appearance. Mini Poodles are moderately sized, have a curly coat that doesn't shed and are available in a variety of colors. These dogs are known to be very sociable, lively and playful. They are one of the brightest and most attentive of all breeds. They have an eagerness to please and that makes them easy to train. Poodles often are used as show dogs because of their agility and obedience. Besides being very friendly with humans, miniature Poodles also get along well with other animals.
If you live in an apartment, then a mini sized Poodle dog makes a good pet. While they are still very active, they don't require a yard to get adequate exercise. However, the dogs do need a daily walk. Play will take care of many of their physical needs, but walking and fresh air are essential. Dogs who don't walk enough tend to exhibit behavioral problems.
Before you purchase a miniature Poodle, it's a good idea to spend time with the dog to observe its temperament. Obedience instructors and behavioral consultants have reported nervousness as being very common in the breed. This could include snappiness, extreme fearfulness and hyperactivity. They could also experience emotional sensitivity to stress, tension or loud voices. Poodles are also extremely high maintenance dogs. Their coats require regular brushing and monthly clips; they are prone to barking and often experience health problems.
The Poodle dog has been popular for centuries because of their intelligence and loyalty to their owners, and the miniature Poodle continues this tradition. While these dogs can be a treasured part of your family, you must be willing to commit the time and love necessary to ensure that yours is healthy and happy. Like with any dog, miniature Poodles want nothing more than to please their owner. If you take care of them, then you'll have a friend who will love you for life.
Toy Poodles
Toy poodles are dainty, sensitive little creatures that will amuse you with their comical antics. However, because of their diminutive size, they need special care. If you are considering bringing one of these adorable Poodle puppies home and making him or her a member of your family, then you will need to know how to train and care for the tiny pooch.
The distinct clips of Poodles make them one of the most recognizable dogs in the world. Your pet can begin receiving clips as early as six weeks old. To make the process easier on toy Poodles, introduce them to it slowly so that they realize that it is not a threat to their safety. Don't rush your dog. Some Poodle puppies will become accustomed to the clippers faster than others. It's very important that you remain diligent about the care of your dog's coat. Without daily brushing and frequent clips, the hair can become matted.
Tiny toy Poodles are very sensitive, yet extremely intelligent. They are quite demanding for attention and play time, but they are delightful and happy overall. They can be quite reserved with strangers, so Poodle puppies should be socialized from an early age. This trait does make them particularly good watch dogs. It is not uncommon for a toy Poodle to be timid and high strung, so owners need to make an effort to teach them not to snap when they are startled or teased. A toy Poodle is therefore a great dog for families with older children who understand how to be considerate of dogs.
Poodle puppies should be trained as soon as possible and it should be done gently. This breed can be very stubborn to train, but like most dogs, they enjoy pleasing their owners. The trick for successful training lies in patience and consistency. Four of the worst mistakes a dog owner can make when training are teaching a dog too many commands at one time, moving on to another command before a dog has successfully mastered the previous lesson, having more than one person train the dog with different training methods, and not refreshing the dog's memory with commands that have been learned. To effectively train your dog, teach one command at a time and don't train for more than 10 minute at a time. Be sure to give lots of praise when he performs a command correctly.
Dogs from the toy group have become extremely popular. Toy Poodles have become especially chic, and you can regularly see them in the company of the rich and famous. This is partly because of their beauty, but they truly are wonderful companions. You don't have to be a member of the elite to enjoy the company of one of these fantastic little dogs. All you have to do is commit yourself to their care. Once you do, you'll have a companion who will love you forever.
Cheers To The Tea Cup Poodle
For fans of tiny pets, you don't get much tinier than the tea cup Poodle. At only seven inches in height and less than four pounds in weight, the teacup Poodles are the ideal dog for apartment dwellers or anyone who wants a canine companion that they can take anywhere. Because of their diminutive size, teacup Poodles need extra love and care. In this article, we'll explain how to care for your tiny pet to make sure that he or she has a long and happy life.
The tea cup is a much smaller version of the toy Poodle. The average weight of a tea cup breed is three and a half pounds but some are even smaller than that. Teacups are best suited to people who don't have children and spend a lot of time at home. Unlike the standard Poodle, the miniature Poodle and the toy Poodle, the tea cup version cannot jump off of a sofa or bed, and cannot climb stairs. Because they are so small, they cannot play with other animals. The most dangerous factor of their size is their lack of body fat. Fat helps keep the body warm and stores energy. Teacup Poodles can be at risk of hypoglycemia (abnormally low blood sugar levels) if they aren't fed regularly.
A well bred tea cup is just as healthy as a toy Poodle. If you follow the breeder's recommendations for specific tea cup care, then you will have a healthy pooch for many years. To properly care for your pet, you will need a playpen or exercise pen, a fleece blank, and water and food bowls. Most vets will recommend a breed specific, homemade dog food or a high quality commercial dog food. You should also get a body harness and leash for the safety of your tea cup. If the teacup wiggles out of your grip, a short leash will stop him before he lands on the floor.
Unlike other Poodle varieties, the tea cup Poodle is fairly inactive and requires frequent rest. To help your Poodle recover from a walk or frisky play session, give him a snack and tuck him into his playpen. Tea cups tend to get chilly, so give him a fleece blanket. It's also a good idea to get a playpen with legs so that it's not on the floor. You should also make sure that the water you serve is at room temperature. Cold water will make the dog's body temperature drop drastically.
The cuteness of a tea cup Poodle is impossible to resist, but the dog won't have a healthy life if they don't have an owner who is willing to dedicate a lot of time to their needs. If you're considering getting a tea cup, then do your research and be absolutely sure that you can provide a safe home for the dog. If you decide to bring one of these adorable, teacup poodle puppies home, then you'll have a buddy who will love you unconditionally.

Awh . . . I want one!
You need Dogs 101-Poodle from amaimal Planet see it on youtube Poodles are not French they are Germany.
FYI, The Poodle breed did not originate in France!! The origin of the breed is Germany over 1000 yrs ago. There were later lines that were developed in France & Russia. The word 'pudel' is the basis for the Poodle name. It is German & means 'to splash about in water" & the Std Poodle (the original w/the miniature & toy being developed much later by breeding & rebreeding smaller pups from litters) is the world's 1st curley coated water retreiver. In France the Poodle is called 'canisch' which interprets to 'duck dog'. The are also the most intelligent of all breeds listed in the AKC registry, however it is always a close call between it & the Border Collie, which trades places w/the Poodle as to whom is the most intelligent quite often per the AKC. I have been a breeder/owner of the Std Poodle for 17yrs.
YES poodles where first bred in germany-- BUT it was developed and molded in france- so thats why some call it the french poodle.

I never thought I would like poodles. Thought they would be wimpy. Boy, was I ever wrong. Our toy poodle Zoe proved me wrong. Have never been so wrong. They are nice, smart and not wimpy but fierce. Love my Zoe. She is no sissy dog.
Thanks for the information. I love poodle dogs.
I love my Standard Poodle. It is the first poodle I've ever owned and now I will never own any other dog breed. I'm so sold!
Yet another uneducated source of information. There are three sizes of poodles. Under 11 inches is a toy - over 11 and under 15 is a miniature and over 15 is a standard. Tea cup is a marketing term as is Royal. One meaning undersized and one is oversized. These are a way for bad breeders to get more money for a dog bred outside the standard.

I have two poodles both toys. A pure white female and a chocolate phantom male. Both about 5 lbs. The Duke and Dutchess of Fillmore. More often called Peanut and Sugar. Very smart lap dogs. If you want a lap dog this is the breed and size for you. They are happiest in my lap. Peanut my little man likes to be the watch dog. He lays on the back of the couch in the living room looking out at the world. He barks when he sees someone coming to the door. otherwise he is quiet. Sugar is a lover, she purrs like a cat when you pet her!! It is so funny.
